/*Comment for interessted people

I found a way to use a bluetooth dongle and my mobilephone as UMTS modem and the cool thing is that it works great and it works with Ubuntu 7.04 Feisty Fawn.
To put it easy: I connect my mobilephone wireless (via bluetooth) to my Laptop and my mobile phone does the work of a wireless modem with a maximum bandwidth of 384kb/s.
I think that's cool.

If the connections is bad (terribly slow or simply not working), I will blog via my mobile phone using GPRS connection. This means shorter Posts low quality pictures an d that all post apear in my mobile blog.
I hope the UMTS will work - in fact I think it will - because in this case I can use high quality images and post more text and the post apear here in my normal blog.

We'll see.

Just four weeks left

Yesterday my girlfriend, my neighbour (one of my best friends in fact) and I did some pictures in Klagenfurt at night. Really funny. There are so much little - and big things to see. We tried a lot of different things. (HDR, high exposure time, low exposure time, wired perspektives).
For example taking a tripod placing it next to a street and using an exposure time of 30 seconds to capture these cool stripes of light when cars a driving by. When we were driving home my neighbour sat on the passenger seat an took some pictures of the street with a very high exposure time while I was driving.
But this was allready the second photo-session of this day. Some hours before my girlfriend and I were at the "Europa Park". A lot of ducks and flowers.
Today I will take the train to my girlfriend's home. Maybe I will take some more photos there. - I think I am in the right mood.
I am so happy that I can go to work tomorrow and don't have to go to school again. I am really in a good mood.

anticipation

I am really looking foward to enter my car in about an hour. It will be hot as hell. I hate that. The weather is really anoying. Too warm april, cold and rainy may, ..... and at the moment it is a lot too hot.

This is what I see when I look out of the window:AND I HATE IT! Why isn't it possible that the weather is comfortable (22°C, a few clouds, rain every monday evening from 10PM - 11PM.) and stays like that.

Whom should I talk to?

"Home sweet home" or "The pursuit"

I am living in a really little village, a very peaceful an quiet village.

But, today - I was just leaving the house to go to work - my grandfather told me that my mother - she was talking the dog for a walk in the wood - heard shots and people screaming and that even he had heard the shots.
I thougth maybe it was just a hunter shooting a deer, but who shoots a deer with 7 or 8 shots?
I got into my car and drove to work, but after 200 meters I saw a lot of police cars and a destroyed car on the street. Now I was pretty sure that something has happend. Nevertheless I had to go to work.
About 2 hours after I arrived at work I read the online news, and I read what happened this morning. The police chased a man - probably drunken - driving way too fast. They tried to stop him, but he didn't. So they destroyed the wheels of his car. In fact they were shooting at the wheels.
Like Hollywood. Just a few meters away from my "Home sweet home".

fibre optic cabel

I thougth and world is crazy and wired, but now I know it is also really funny. Some thiefs have stolen 11 kilometers (yes 11 kilometers!!! 11.000 meters!!!) of fibre optic cabel. Submarine cabel! This means they had to dive into the ocean to get it! - and it means that the internet is really slow in Vietnam.
How hardcore crazy is that? But,...

Thief A: "Let's steal some cables!"
Thief B: "Ok, but which cables?"
Thief A: "There are 11 kilometers of cables deep down in the ocean!"
Thief B: "But they are heavy and diving is dangerous and don't you think somebody will notice what we are doing?"
Thief A: "No. I think that's a good idea!"
Thief B: "Ok.."

I don't think that such conversations really happen, but I also thougth nobody would be so stupid as to steal 11 kilometers of cable!!

I hope they find and arrest these guys, not only because they have stolen cables but because they are so stupid and crazy!

all the little things

There are things we never think about. For example to give a directory the names "nul" or "con".

I explain it. If you are sitting in front of a Pc with Windows XP on it please try to create a directory with the name "con" or "nul".

Hehe...

Another one: Type "keiner mag die Zivis" (without the "" of course) into the windows standard editor notepad and save it for example as Text.txt. Then try to open it again by double clicking the file.

Hehe...

Check this out:
http://www.google.de/Easter/feature_easter.html

Or just type "answer to life, the universe and everything" into google. Ok it is joke from Douglas Adams, but i think it's funny that Google cares about this.

All the little things... We can't live without them...

I wan't a sun blackbox. In my garden. Now!

This is the coolest server ever! It is the first virtualized datacenter. It delivers 146 teraflops and can hold up to 2 PentaBytes of data. You can place this container everywhere you want. Plug it in.

but there is a second thing I would like to have in my living room. The Sun Fire E25K Server.

C MAGIC

I am absolutly impressed.
I know that those of you who aren't programming won't understand this, but I have to publicate this. Just follow these steps with the code from below! ENJOY!

This has been circulating the net for the past few years.
It is a remarkable piece of code.

1) Cut out the following obfuscated C-code into a file, say xmas.c
2) At your unix prompt type: "cc xmas.c"
3) The program should compile without errors, now type "a.out"
4) It will compile under DOS as well.

5) No, it does not access the file system.
No, it does not access the network.

6) Your guess is as good as mine.

Recapitulation

The last time I was writting something here it was freezing cold outside and the world was buried by heavy white snow.
Today I left the house wearing a T-Shirt without feeling cold.

The reason why I haven't wrote something for so long is, because there wasn't much to tell.

But, a few things I like to tell you about this time. I won't tell you about the "millitant traffic circle fanatic", but about what I've learned and what I've done during the last month.

The last three weeks I spent with learning how to use Hibernate and tried to improve my JAVA skills. I think it worked bretty good. I am thinking about completly rebuilding my homepage. I just have to make a new one every now and then.
At the moment I have absolutly no idea what to do, but I think something will come to my mind sooner or later.

I also spent a few hours thinking about likeliness. I think there are three theories which you have to think about.

Murphy's law
If anything can go wrong, it will, and usually at the most inopportune moment.

increase likeliness
You just have to make something more likely until the likelyness is as high as it can be.

mathematical likeliness
If there are 2 possibilities, the chance for each of them to happen is 50%.

So Murphy's law tells us that the chance that something happens that should happen is 0%, according to the 'increasing likeliness' theorie the chance that something happens that should happen is 100% and the mathematic tells us that the chance that something happens that should happen is 100 diveded by the number of posibilities.

A simple example:

Flip a Coin - head or tail.
We bet on tail.

Murphy: 0%
increase: 100%
mathematic: (100/2)% => 50%

Avvarage: (0+100+50)/3 = 50%

Another example:

Throw a dice.
We bet on 6.

Murphy: 0%
increase: 100%
mathematic: (100/6)% => 16,6666666666666666666666666%

Avarage: 38,888888888888888888888888%

I will try to make some experiments with this and the tell you about this soon.

weather chaos NR.1 - 2007

I think words can't explain what is happening right now right here. Weather is so crazy. Yesterday we had 16°C and today I can't reach my home by car because the roads are blocked by snow and broken trees on the street- so i had to walk. Here are some pictures. They were taken between 9:00AM and 04:30PM in chronological order.

See how fast chaos is:

I will post some pictures tomorrow to show you how the chaos goes on.

Form 16 to 0

Snow.
Yesterday afternoon it was enough to wear a T-Shirt now you need a lot more. It snows again. We have a temperature difference of 16°C between yesterday and now! Weather is really scary sometimes!
When I left home this morning it started to rain, but now it is snowing. It snows like crazy. Snow even starts to cover the streets and plants outside.
I wanted to put summer tires on my car this weekend- I am glad that I didn't do so.

I hate the weather...

mail me python!!!

It's there!!! - the book I ordered.
"Object oriented programming with python"

Ok, sounds boring, but for me it is something really great!
I staterted playing around with smtplib. Finally I managed to wirte mails using my own console application! It looks so cool when you're writing mails in a console window.

Green on Black - I will posta screenshot here soon!

Maybe you think this is very uncomfortable, but in fact it is lot easier and faster than using any complex applikation with a great gui and lot's of cool, but never used, functions. This thing I wrote simply writes mails. First it ask you for your email, the recipient's email and the subject. Then you write your mail text press return twice and that's it!
Every thing runs in text-mode. It looks something like this

>FROM: webmaster@the-engine.at

then...

>TO: webmaster@the-engine.at

then...

>SUBJECT: TestMail

and finally...

>MESSEGE: This is my testmessege..... may the force be with you!!! lg salendron.

and that's it!
What do you need more? Ok attachments! This will be a bigger challenge, but I think I will be able to implement it, but first I will implement a client for recieving mails. I am so excited! I love playing god for 1 and 0.

ring ring.... What's your name?

Why is it...

Ok image your telephone rings. What is the first thing you usually say to the one on the other side?

"Salendron...." - Exactly your name!
Maybe you say "Hello! Salendron...." - But this doesnt really make a difference!

It looks like the "ring ring" is something like a synonym for "What's your name?".

Maybe this happens just in my country - I don't know, but today it was the first time when I realized how strange this is.

Monday, March 12, 2007

uhuuu.... uhuuuu.....

No, I am no owl or big foot or a bear called bruno, even if some people think so. I told them that I was doing some photos in the wood this weekend. HDR-Experiments.
They started joking around. Sometimes I do some strange things., like making noises like "uhuuu" at work. Don't ask me why - I am a strange person.
So they told me that it is very dangerous for me to go into a forrest because maybe a hunter wants to shoot me because he thinks I am an owl and when he recognizes that I am not he may think I am big foot because of my big feet and when I tell him that my name is Bruno he might shoot me because he thinks I am a bear.
Great!

my personal war

We are the middle children of history, man. No purpose or place. We have no great war, or great depression. Our great war is a spiritual war. Our great depression is our lives. We've all been raised by television to believe that one day we'll all be millionaires and movie gods and rock stars -- but we won't. And we're learning slowly that fact.

- Tyler Durden -

It might sound strange, but fight club was a movie which gave me a lot of things to think about. Ok it was a crazy movie, with a lot of surreal strange and funny things, but there is bad taste of truth in it.
I have never been in any really great trouble. I mean something life-changing. I never did something big. Big like something that changes history! I live my life and my biggest problem is the rushhour on my way home!

There is no challenge!

--- listening to Salive 800 ---

Got yourself believing in something
Got myself believing in nothing
And man you're going down
Make yourself a God
I know who you are

--- END LYRIC ---

Sounds like speaking to myself.
Today a colleague gave me the biographie of Linus Torvalds. I just read a few sentences - it's funny - but in some way it frustrates me. This freak from Finland really made it. He changed the whole IT-World with his idea. I slowly begin to feel to old to have such an outstanding idea to change anything. - But I think I am to megalomaniac to stop trying.

What is wrong with me? Sometimes I feel like my creativity is dead and right now my creativity is hyper-active.
Two new projects - both looking very good. One is metaLIGHT. (HINT: there is a link in the sidebar) It is a little website where I put all my artwork. I did a lot of them during the last week. Photos, grafix, photo manipulations....

The other project (there is no link to this, because at the moment there is nothing cool to see) is vDESKTOP. It will be a web applikation (PHP/AJAX) which simulates a virtual Filesystem and mailingsystem with user and group managment. A lot of work.

Let's see what comes next!

Äh... I don't know?

I love living in a world full of things that are so irrational! Let's talk about the Flying Spaghetti Monster! http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fliegendes_Spaghettimonster
I know a lot about religions, but this religion is probably the most funniest one I ever heard about! They believe in a Flying Spaghetti Monster and that the all the bad things that are happening, happen because there aren't enough active pirats on this planet anymore.

How cool is that? ... I guess nearly as cool as this: http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unsichtbares_rosafarbenes_Einhorn

I am a person that lives for the moment. I am not a person that plans thing more than 10 minutes before it's time to do these things.

BUT AT THE MOMENT MY CALENDAR IS FULL OF THINGS TO DO FOR THE NEXT TWO WEEKS!

How could this happen? I don't know. Suddenly I knew what I am going to do this weekend and what I am going to do next weekend. Suddenly everything is plannend.

Plans are also the key to madden nfl 2007. It's such a funny game! I really enjoy spending my evenings playing a little game - or the superbowl. Can't wait until it's evening so I can play again.

TIAMI

First of all I have to say that the word binary baby doesn't seem to be so absolutly correct as it was the last time I used to call something like this.
My last BB (Binary Baby) was a programm made of several lines of byte code. This time it is a fat, wired looking thing made of digital vectors.
I called it TIAMI. "There Is A Monster Inside"

Yesterday evening I drove to a parking site to take some pictures. (Yes a parking site can be interessting) I tried to make pictures with my monster in it. Of course this isn't possible - because the monster is only a digital collection of vectors, color and imagination - but after I took some very sensless pictures something began to change about my view. I began to image what this monster would do if it would be here for real. It felt a bit like chasing a child playing around on this parking site. It was amazing.
Today I try to make some more pictures and then start to put the monster itself into it, so that everybody can see what my imagination created during I made these pictures.

a creation by a bored creativity

I don't really know why I am writing something and I don't know why somebody should read this after seeing this picture.

Yesterday evening I decided to do something creative. So I took a pen and a sheet of paper and started painting. After serveral hours the result loked something like this. So I scanned it and colorized it using Inkscape.

It's my beautiful creation!

bored creativity

If my creativity would be a person it would be running arround me screaming:

"COME ON! LET'S DO SOMETHING COOL! COME ON! BUDDY!... ....STAND UP AND CREATE SOMETHING AMAZING!... ...ARGHHH!!! YOU'RE SO BORING DUDE!"

I am very glad that my creativity is no real person, because this would be really annoying, but I can't ignore this feeling about having to be creative! I think Inkscape could be a tool that maybe satisfies my wish of beeing creative. There are so many ideas in my head and I've got absolutly no idea, if they are possible.

Have to try!

Eye Candy

Beryl is... well... I better write what the beryl-project says on his webpage (http://www.beryl-project.org/):

Beryl is an OpenGL accelerated desktop that seeks to provide a free, open source desktop experience to the community that reflects the wishes of the users.

In fact it's just amazing. Some time ago I tried compiz, but it didn't really satisfied me, because of the confusing installation howto's I found. installing Beryl was pretty easy. Just follow these 2 Howto's:
http://wiki.ubuntuusers.de/Xgl

Easy, isn't it? After that I configured it a bit it looks like this:

The first screenshot shows the famous 3d cube, which represents four desktop's through which you can switch really easy - enough space for everyone.
The second screenshot shows a window picker. By pressing F8 or moving the mouse into a corner of the screen you can arrange all open windows right in front of you so you can pick one to activate it. A nice alternative to ALT+TAB. ALT+TAB shows you all open windows in a horizontal list, but you see the content of the windows in realtime. So if there is a movieplayer - like totem or mplayer - you see the movie playing in this windows list.

Beryl offes you a lot of visual effects. The best way to get more information on this is to install it or search for Beryl on YouTube.com to see it in action!

It's a hard life on the enterprise

Everybody knows her. Uhura! What a name. She had one of the worst jobs on the enterprise. She was the only afro-american, the only known woman and she had the silliest name, but also other guys had a hard and short life on the enterprise.
If there was suddenly another crew member, which you have never seen before, he is definitly going to die.

I am no fan of Sttar Trek but I watched it every now and then when I was younger. Why I wrote about this unfamous heros of the unknown space? Because it was the topic of the day in the kitchen at work. Life is so funny.

my subjective opinion about objectivity

Objectivity is a lie built up by ignorant people. I think it is impossible to say or think about something in a fully objective way. Humans are unique so everybody sees his world in a unique way. According to that, it is impossible for 2 people to see or feel exactly the same.

Maybe you disagree with this, but I don't care, because it does not matter, because it is my subjective view.

Howto build your own last.fm radio with vnc controlling unit

I can't live without music. I listen to a lot of music! I am bored by my own music, because I have heard every track a thousand times.
Buy new music! ... but which music?

I don't really like listening to the radio, because, no matter which radio station you are listening to, they are playing a few good songs and a lot of shit and commercials are really annoying.
A few days ago I began to use last.fm. That's cool. You enter a band you like and it generates a personal radio stream with bands that are similar to that for you!

Ok next problem: You just can listen to it using your pc.
So I took an old pc and installed Ubuntu 6.06. Then I installed all the codecs and the other importent stuff. Just use Automatix for that.
At least I installed a last.fm tool called LastExit. I entered my free last.fm account and just a few seconds later I was listening to cool music. I placed the pc on top of my wardrobe and pluged in the 5.1 surround system. To make it easier to controll it I am using vnc.
So I am sitting in my bed with my laptop starting vnc -> starting lastexit on the other pc via vnc and control everything from where I am. The music itself, the volume and I can even tell last.fm if i like this song or not! Wlan is very usefull to keep yourself mobil.
