Alive

Felt my blood floating through my body - faster and faster.
Felt the sweat on my fingers - cold.
Heard them screaming - loud.

Gears of War is really the best multiplayer game ever!

Yersterday my XBOX 360 finally came back from getting repaired. I played PGR3 for about an hour, but then I decided to play Gears of War.

It seems like I have forgotten how great this game is.

So I went to the toilet (to play it safe) - took off my shoes - plugged the headset into the controller - activated the 5.1 sound system and joined a multiplayer game.

4 versus 4

After some time of real great multiplayer action I noticed that my puls was really high and my fingers were covered with cold sweat. I also noticed that I have played for 4 and a half hours - it felt like I have just joined this game.

It was a very funny feeling to know that a game - a great game - one of the greatest games ever - could make me fell like this. It was a hard day at work and I was very tired and cut up when I came home this evening, but after these hours of playing this I felt happy, balanced and a bit hungry.

I am not addicted to computer games - absolutly not - I am not even very good at playing video games, I just play about 5 to 8 hours per week. I wouldn't even have the time to play more, because I have to go to work and my girlfriend wouldn't be very happy, if I would be playing video games all the time, but sometimes we play together and that is one thing I really like about her. She has no problem with killing virtual monster in a video game with me.

Today I won't be able to play gears of war, because I will drive to my girlfriend in the evening. I miss her a lot so I am really looking forward to see her again in a few hours.

Sry virtual monsters, I have to kill you tomorrow, because today I have more important things to do....

Back 2 life

Let's start with: ME

I am really happy right now. Ok it is monday, but so many good things happend in the last 72 hours. (breath in and stay calm - I am no idiot my friend) My MOO cards finally arrived and also my XBOX 360 is back (now breath out - everythings ok). I also visited the Harley Davidson Bikeweek. Really cool. Pictures can be seen in my Flickr web-album.

Next Topic: my life

My life is as usual... ...ok not everything is as usual there are two things, which aren't as usual. (breath in again - it's getting dangerous)
These two things are - nearly - about the same thing, but one of these two things isn't interessting at all, because my little world isn't affected by it and I don't care about it. (Can you feel the tension?)
The other thing is really cool. I like how it seems to turn out. I hope it turns out good and stays good. (Was this careful enough?)

And at last: my wired world
(uhh... A lot to tell - scary isn't it?) I allready told you that there is one thing happening, which is really cool and I like how it works and how it seems to turn out. I want to tell you that I have nothing to with this - no influence - simply nothing, but it all happens so close to my world, that I can't ignore it. So don't be scared. Be happy my friend.

RainbowSnake

RainbowSnake Test 1Python is a programming language that really blows my mind.

Wikipedia says:
Python is a multi-paradigm programming language (functional, object oriented and imperative) which has a fully dynamic type system and uses automatic memory management.

I say:
Python is just great.

Some time ago I began to play arround with the Python Image Libary (PIL). I found out how to manipulate every single pixels color, brightness, contrast and so on. I also made some experiments with merging pictures (of the same thing but with different exposures) into one picture to gain more details, but this pictures weren't really outstanding beautiful ( in fact they all looked pretty boring, because my method caused them loosing contrast).

At the moment I am playing arround with colors. I use kind of color-patterns (in fact I use different relations between red, green and blue) and manipulate every single pixels color by recalculating its color in relation to the other colors of this pixel.
The results can be seen on the picture in the top left corner of this post. (I did NOT use any photo manipulating software to create these pictures. I just used my own little python programms. I just used GIMP to put all 12 photos onto on big picture.)
I created 3 different styles so far, but I am not really satisfied at the moment.
The next step will be to use 3 different pictures with different exposure of the same thing, merge them into one boring picture and apply styles that keep the details and bring back the colors to the picture.

A lot of work I think. A lot of things to learn about color managment and a lot of fun.

to be continued...

But now let me tell you a bit about my holydays.
First of all: It was great!

My holydays started with the photowalk - I allready wrote about it.
The first week I spent with doing nearly nothing. Just hanging around, sleeping meeting some friends. I just had a good time.
the second week was nearly the same. Just great.

Of course I always had my camera with me to take pictures of different kind of things. (you can take a look at them here)

I know that this is a very short letter after so long time of writing nothing, but at the moment I really haven't got a lot to tell.

Why are some things just normal things and others ones are art?

Is it all about a kind of a messege that is build into something?

Hm...

Art is something that makes you feel something - I think. - but who cares what I think.

twenty-three point 5

Just a moment away, feels like eternity.

Feels like 9 AM on the 24th of December. So close to christmas, but it feels like time is running backwards.

There is so much to do before it's christmas.
Have to go, have to return. Have to meet someone, have to leave. Have to be creative, have to be rational.

Don't think about it.

Underwear is not allowed

It was a great weekend. I spent a lot of time at the Highland Games in Klagenfurt. I took a lot of photos of all the contests and of the event it self.

It was a lot of fun. The team of my sisters husband took the 15th place. (A great achievement, because they got 15th of 70 teams)

My homepage get's closer to its final version. The photo gallery now has an art gallery with a lot of pictures and now it is possible to enlarge the pictures to see the original size.

cooking, colored foil, flashlights, skirts, trees, beer and all the rest!

42

This picture shows you the answer to your question. (Your question was: "What does this wired title mean?" If this was not your question, 42 still stays the answer - to live, the universe and everything else)

Back to what I wanted to say.
It is really hard to find recipes on the internet. It is nearly impossible to find recipes for things that are just tasty. You find a lot of anti-fat recipes or wired african-banana-fish recipes, but nothing that is easy to cook and TASTY!

I have to buy colored foil and flashlights today. I just have to do some more light-painting (I do not know if this words exists)

My brother-in-law will wear a skirt for the next 3 days. No, not what you think. He is member of a Highland-Games-Team. I hope the weather get's a little better because all of the contests (throwing trees, fast-beer-drinking, egg-throwing, etc...) are outdoor contests.

Ice cream in the morning is odd, but tasty.

Painting with light

Light: Shapes
Originally uploaded by salendron
Yesterday night michael and me tried to do some experiments with light.

Our Equipment:
  • Canon EOS 400D
  • Canon EF-S18-55 Lens
  • Tripod
  • 4 Flashlights

None of these photos was manipulated on the PC.
We really made them looking like this just by using a high exposure time.

We waited until it was getting dark outside and then we just set up the camera on the tripod and started to take pictures with a high exposure time (10sec,15sec,30sec) while we were trying to draw some shapes.

Our first pictures weren't really what we wanted (blured, wired).
After some time we figured out how to draw without getting just blured heaps of light.

We spent hours on trying to draw different things. We drew basic shapes, PacMan like ghosts, little creatures on the playground, glowing houses and we made ourselves glow.

I think you have to see it to understand what I mean.
http://www.flickr.com/photos/salendron/

This was my first experiment. I haven't planed anything. I think I can do a lot better, if I do this with a bit more organization and planning.

And of course I will try this again.

The photo part will contain photos of events, parties or something like this.

The photo gallery should be finished until monday the 13th.

Then there is just one thing missing. The new Index. I have a wired idea, I hope you will like it.

and suddenly there was a Peacock

Strange.. isn't it?

I just wanted to take a panorama, but then there was suddenly a peacock running around in the europa park.

Normally they are inside a cage, but this one escaped - I don't know how.

So I was able to take some real cool pictures of it while it was posing for me and all the other people standing around. It seemed like it enjoyed beeing in middle of all these people and all these cameras.

Strange animal.
Strange evening.

something new

It's time for something new. In fact a lot.
I plan to do some radical chances.

That means that:
  1. I plan to create an alternative to the forum that makes more sense than a classic forum.
  2. I am building a new (AJAX/PHP) photo gallery with a better and easier to use GUI
  3. I plant to create a new Index (Just something that looks cooler and that has some cool features...)

how small

my way to weekend

...planing... ...nonsense... ...but necessary...

I have to travel a lot today.

1.
I will drive to the train station in Klagenfurt.

2.
There I will take the train to Paternion/Feistritz at 14:01

3.
Then I will drive to Turrach with my girlfriend and then back to Fresach.

4.
At 18:54 my girlfriend and I will take the train form Paternion/Feistritz to Villach.

AND THAT'S THE POINT WHERE MY WEEKEND BEGINS!

5 hours of traveling arround for 1 weekend. Strange... ...but necessary...

I think there is no great meaning of life... Life will kill me, one day. Not today.

My purpose? No idea.
My wishes? A lot. A normal life with all it's good and bad sides. To know why I stand up in the morning.

My targets? Do something that will be remembered.

I am just a lost soul, searching for my way back home... I am as normal as all of you. Nothing special. Isn't that what makes all of us unique, to know that nothing ever changes.

Let's make history. I wish to have one big idea. One big mindblowing idea. Like Linus Torvalds, James Gosling, Douglas Adams, and all the other nobodies that had a idea that was so great that nobody ever could remove them from my memory.

Welcome to my journey. I have so many ideas and I think that's the problem.

Did a lot of pictures. ( See the best ones on flickr.com/photos/salendron )

I think I finally found a way to express myself. Photographie has really become my hobby #1.

I don't know if my pictures are good, beautiful or significant. I don't know how other people think about my creations (I really want to know), but I found something that I really like.

I am really looking forward to go for a photo tour today. If someone want's to join me and take some cool photos with me on such a photo tour - It is really fun, trust me - just contact me.

Me and my studio PART 1

Yes I did it. I installed Ubuntu Studio 7.04 Feisty Fawn. Only alternative installer.
Big DVD iso image.
Worked fine - except of some xserver issuses, but "dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg" helps a lot - did it 2 times.
Beryl also works - also just a little problem - "force aiglx" option did it for me.

These two things were done using two really good howtos.

Installing Ubuntu Studio:
http://news.softpedia.com/news/How-to-Install-Ubuntu-Studio-54514.shtml

Then I activated nVidia graphic acceleration like this:
from ubuntuusers.de

7.04 (Feisty Fawn)

Installing Beryl with nVidia:
http://wiki.beryl-project.org/wiki/Install_Beryl_on_Ubuntu_Feisty_with_nVidia

All the other usefull stuff (codecs, tools, fonts, etc) I used Automatix:
http://www.getautomatix.com/wiki/index.php?title=Installation

Today I won't be at home in the evening so I won't be able to wirte a userfirendly easy tutorial. I will write it tomorrow. The next step is to learn about Blender 3D and cinelarra (also needs to be installed). I am also looking for a little and easy to use document managment system. I hope I find a good one.

adventuresome

Today I'll give it a try. Since Ubuntu Studio was released I wanted to install it. I wanted to see, fell, experience it, but I haven't had the heart to do so. Now I think the time has come.

My Goal:

Tasks:
  • Download it
  • Install it
  • Install Automatix for missing codecs and stuff
  • Write a Guide about installing and configuration
  • Getting my mobile phone working as a MODEM again
  • Getting my Mouse (Logitech MX Revolution) working
  • Installing Cinelerra
  • Learning Blender 3D and Cinelerra

I found a way to use a bluetooth dongle and my mobilephone as UMTS modem and the cool thing is that it works great and it works with Ubuntu 7.04 Feisty Fawn.
To put it easy: I connect my mobilephone wireless (via bluetooth) to my Laptop and my mobile phone does the work of a wireless modem with a maximum bandwidth of 384kb/s.
I think that's cool.

If the connections is bad (terribly slow or simply not working), I will blog via my mobile phone using GPRS connection. This means shorter Posts low quality pictures an d that all post apear in my mobile blog.
I hope the UMTS will work - in fact I think it will - because in this case I can use high quality images and post more text and the post apear here in my normal blog.

We tried a lot of different things. (HDR, high exposure time, low exposure time, wired perspektives).
For example taking a tripod placing it next to a street and using an exposure time of 30 seconds to capture these cool stripes of light when cars a driving by. When we were driving home my neighbour sat on the passenger seat an took some pictures of the street with a very high exposure time while I was driving.
But this was allready the second photo-session of this day. Some hours before my girlfriend and I were at the "Europa Park". A lot of ducks and flowers.
Today I will take the train to my girlfriend's home. Maybe I will take some more photos there. - I think I am in the right mood.

"Home sweet home" or "The pursuit"

I am living in a really little village, a very peaceful an quiet village.

But, today - I was just leaving the house to go to work - my grandfather told me that my mother - she was talking the dog for a walk in the wood - heard shots and people screaming and that even he had heard the shots.
I thougth maybe it was just a hunter shooting a deer, but who shoots a deer with 7 or 8 shots?
I got into my car and drove to work, but after 200 meters I saw a lot of police cars and a destroyed car on the street. Now I was pretty sure that something has happend. Nevertheless I had to go to work.
About 2 hours after I arrived at work I read the online news, and I read what happened this morning. The police chased a man - probably drunken - driving way too fast. They tried to stop him, but he didn't. So they destroyed the wheels of his car. In fact they were shooting at the wheels.
Like Hollywood. Just a few meters away from my "Home sweet home".

This means they had to dive into the ocean to get it! - and it means that the internet is really slow in Vietnam.
How hardcore crazy is that? But,...

Thief A: "Let's steal some cables!"
Thief B: "Ok, but which cables?"
Thief A: "There are 11 kilometers of cables deep down in the ocean!"
Thief B: "But they are heavy and diving is dangerous and don't you think somebody will notice what we are doing?"
Thief A: "No. I think that's a good idea!"
Thief B: "Ok.."

I don't think that such conversations really happen, but I also thougth nobody would be so stupid as to steal 11 kilometers of cable!!

I hope they find and arrest these guys, not only because they have stolen cables but because they are so stupid and crazy!

all the little things

There are things we never think about. For example to give a directory the names "nul" or "con".

I explain it. If you are sitting in front of a Pc with Windows XP on it please try to create a directory with the name "con" or "nul".

Hehe...

Another one: Type "keiner mag die Zivis" (without the "" of course) into the windows standard editor notepad and save it for example as Text.txt. Then try to open it again by double clicking the file.

Hehe...

Check this out:

Or just type "answer to life, the universe and everything" into google. Ok it is joke from Douglas Adams, but i think it's funny that Google cares about this.

All the little things... We can't live without them...

I'm in love

Blackbox sun, won't you come and wash away the rain...
Ok I know that this is a - costumized - sungarden lyric (Black hole sun, won'Tt you...) but I think it fits really good to my wishes right now.

I wan't a sun blackbox. In my garden. Now!

http://www.sun.com/emrkt/blackbox/index.jsp

This is the coolest server ever! It is the first virtualized datacenter. It delivers 146 teraflops and can hold up to 2 PentaBytes of data. You can place this container everywhere you want. Plug it in.

but there is a second thing I would like to have in my living room. The Sun Fire E25K Server.

http://www.sun.com/servers/highend/sunfire_e25k/specs.xml

Why is the world so cruel? A geek like me without enough money to afford a sun. It is so unfair.

One liners

I can't stop laughing at the moment. You know CSI Miami? Every time it starts like this:
Some one is dies and then David Caruso takes on highs glasses and says something "cool". I it so funny. If I was David Caruso I wouldn't be able to do this hundred time without laughu´ing my head of.

And ones more:

C MAGIC

I am absolutly impressed.
I know that those of you who aren't programming won't understand this, but I have to publicate this. Just follow these steps with the code from below! ENJOY!

This has been circulating the net for the past few years.
It is a remarkable piece of code.

1) Cut out the following obfuscated C-code into a file, say xmas.c
2) At your unix prompt type: "cc xmas.c"
3) The program should compile without errors, now type "a.out"
4) It will compile under DOS as well.

5) No, it does not access the file system.
No, it does not access the network.

6) Your guess is as good as mine.

-----cut here (xmas.c)---------------------------------------------

#include
main(t,_,a )
char *a;
{return !0
t<3?
main(-79,-13,a+main(-87,1-_,main(-86, 0, a+1 )+a))
:1,t<_?main(>
:3,main ( -94, -27+t, a )&&t == 2 ?

Recapitulation

The last time I was writting something here it was freezing cold outside and the world was buried by heavy white snow.
Today I left the house wearing a T-Shirt without feeling cold.

The reason why I haven't wrote something for so long is, because there wasn't much to tell.

But, a few things I like to tell you about this time. I won't tell you about the "millitant traffic circle fanatic", but about what I've learned and what I've done during the last month.

The last three weeks I spent with learning how to use Hibernate and tried to improve my JAVA skills. I think it worked bretty good. I am thinking about completly rebuilding my homepage. I just have to make a new one every now and then.
At the moment I have absolutly no idea what to do, but I think something will come to my mind sooner or later.

I also spent a few hours thinking about likeliness. I think there are three theories which you have to think about.

Murphy's law
If anything can go wrong, it will, and usually at the most inopportune moment.

increase likeliness
You just have to make something more likely until the likelyness is as high as it can be.

mathematical likeliness
If there are 2 possibilities, the chance for each of them to happen is 50%.

So Murphy's law tells us that the chance that something happens that should happen is 0%, according to the 'increasing likeliness' theorie the chance that something happens that should happen is 100% and the mathematic tells us that the chance that something happens that should happen is 100 diveded by the number of posibilities.

A simple example:

Flip a Coin - head or tail.
We bet on tail.

Murphy: 0%
increase: 100%
mathematic: (100/2)% => 50%

Avvarage: (0+100+50)/3 = 50%

Another example:

Throw a dice.
We bet on 6.

Murphy: 0%
increase: 100%
mathematic: (100/6)% => 16,6666666666666666666666666%

Avarage: 38,888888888888888888888888%

I will try to make some experiments with this and the tell you about this soon.
