i want an eee-pc NOW! and no it is not "extra creamy" or "extra crunchy"

ASUS produced another toy that makes me feel like a little kid having just one big wish for xmas.

The EEE-PC!

It is a so called sub-notebook. This means that it is incredibly small and weights nearly nothing (about 922gramm)

So now let's look at some facts - in numbers:

• Display: 7''


• Resolution: 800x480


• OS: Xandros Linux


• Chipset: Intel (900Mhz)


• Lan: 10/100


• WLan: 802.11b/g


• Memory: 512 MB (DDR2)


• HDD: None (hehe...)


• SSD: 4GB - (oh yeah! - SOLID STATE DISK ROCKS!)


• Webcam: YES


• Audio: Hi-Definition Audio Stereospeaker


• Microphone-In: YES


• Battery: 4 Cells (5200 mAh)


• Weight: 0.92 kg (that's less than the last Harry Potter book...)
  

Now you might say "OMG! 4GB storage? 512MB memory? Is this a bad joke?"

No.

At this point I have to say that the eee-pc is no Laptop- or PC-alternative. It is a Sub-Notebook designed for mobile usage.

There are some features that should show you what I mean:

• The battery supplies power for over 3 hours! (if you are working and listening to music - without music even longer)


• You can use SD/MMC cards or usb-drives as storage (SD's are cheaper than toiletepaper)


• It is not bigger than a small thin book


• It boots in less than 30 seconds


• because of the solid state disk it is extremly shock-resistant


• the display is a non-glare display (no troubles with sunlight reflecting in your display)


• Skype, OpenOffice, Messenger for (icq, msn, etc...), Organizer, PDF-Viewer, Firefox (with all essentail plugins) and over 40 other applications are allready pre-installed and configured


• apt is pre-installed so you can add every additional software you need very easy

...and because of the apt you can do this (senseless but funny):

Maybe now you know why I want it.

There are several scenarios coming to my mind in which this thing would be my gadget #1

• Holding a presentation (yes there is an output for an additional monitor so you can connect it to a beamer)


• Working on my way to work (by train of course)


• Beeing able to use skype,icq email or what ever while I am sitting in a cafe, in the park or anywhere else! (thanks to HSDPA)


• I can even sort, edit and upload my photos to flickr directly from where I am (even if there is no power plug)

BUT, there is one big problem!

I can't get one!

It is sold out!

Ok I hope to get one in some weeks, but I can't wait for so long!!!

I want it NOW!

Now you have read this and maybe you have allready forgotten about the title saying "no it is not "extra creamy" or "extra crunchy"".

I just want to mention - totally off-topic - that there is a writing on my KitKat that tells me that this one is "extra creamy" and "extra crunchy" and I want to tell you that it is not. It tastes like every othe KitKat i have eaten so far.

So better get back to the real important things.

Wiimote + Ubuntu + Python + QT = A lot of fun

I found a pretty funny Video on Youtube.com. It is about a guy that uses a Wiimote to control a program to do something called headtracking.

Yesterday evening I found out how to connect my Wiimote to my pc.
You only need 2 candles (emitting infrared light for the wiimote) a bluetooth-dongle (to connect the wiimote to the pc) and a tool called wminput (to catch the signals from the wiimote)
Then I wrote a little programm (using Python and QT) to demonstrate that it is working. The programm is nothing more than a drag&drop test with some basic shapes.

Ok I am very far away of what this other guy did, but he probably worked a bit longer than me (it took me just two hours to do this.)
Of course I will go on try what I am able todo with the wiimote and of course you will be able to read about it here.

crazy dancemoves! - without any reason!

So...
Ok I was at a bar with some friends. The music was... ....let's say "ok" and there were some people standing arround drinking, talking, having fun, but.....
...suddenly - when the music turned from "ok" to "omg! please turn this shit off!" - the people started to get crazy!!!
It felt like fucking "high school musical" became real! They were performing choreographies and the dancefloor turned into a stage full of dancing-freaks!
There were two guys that danced for hours and they looked like they had practiced their dancemoves for years!
Everybody seemed to know exactly what to do and sometimes 10 or 20 people performed a choreographie together without knowing the others!
It was crazy!
What a freak show!

Ok, I am not really famous, but my photos seem to be popular.
All of my photos are published under the Creative Commons Lisence. This means that everyone is allowed to use my picture (for personal use, not for commercial use) as long as he mentions me as the author of this photo.
I choose this lisence, because I think this is a pretty good way to make my photos more popular - and it seems like it works!

Some people may say, why I do not want money for my photos. If someone needs some special photos he needs to know that I can do that. So they have to know me.
If I make photos for fun and share them via the internet, people may notice me and my work.
I hope my concept will work... ...in some kind of way.

the shoe-challenge

Yesterday I made some experiments with a totally new topic (not really a new topic - just a new for me)
I made some photos of shoes. Yes, shoes!
At this point I want to thank my girlfriend for helping me. You are a really great modell.
It was a big challenge for me to take these pictures, because I allways wanted to keep the focus on the shoes and still keep the picture dynamic and interessting.

Of course I took these pictures not just for fun. I am member of a flickr group called MatchPoint.
This group is a tournament group and the current theme is "Footwear". The tournament with this theme starts soon so I had to take some photos for it.
It is allways a lot of fun to do new things and this group gives me a reason to try new things and to show them to a critical audience.

I made some panoramas in my X-Mas holydays.
A flickr user called Edward All ☆ wrote a comment to one of these. He told me about a online tool called SPi-V panorama.

With this tool you can view your panoramas (directly from flickr) in an really cool online pano-viewer in your browser.

Let's take a look at some examples:

I really like this thing and it is so easy to use!

Just use this URL:

Then the url should look like this for example :

and that's it. Just copy this to the address line of your browser and you can view the panorama in a much cooler way.

the X-Mas report

...just came back home.
I spent the last 5 days at the house in the mountains.
X-Mas was a lot of fun. The whole family was there to cellebrate.
On the 25th Michael and his girlfriend Venassa were also there to take a ride with the "Nocky Flitzer".

Plans for X-MAS (Info)

Like every year I will spend the X-MAS holidays in the mountains with my family. (I am really looking forward to the dinner! ....mmmh jummy.....) I will return home on the 27th - or maybe a day later or earlier. Of course I will take a lot of pictures and of course I will upload them to flickr as soon as possible.
I have a lot to do during my X-MAS holidays. I plan to turn the chaos-room - I call it like that, because it is the only room that isn't finished right now - into a office to work at home.

Ok, well now I just got one last thing to say...

A new challenge!

I think this will be fun.

nearly xmas / hey the colors aren't destroyed / I don't fell like this is too much naked skin

Xmas is coming closer and somehow I am really getting into some kind of xmas-mood. Strange feeling.
I will spend Xmas at the house in the mountains with my family, (I am really looking forward to the dinner) but I think I won't stay in the mountains until new year, so I have to plan something for celebrating new year somewhere else.
Last friday I went to the x-mas party of the company I work for. It was a lot of fun. Great food, beer and great ambiance.

On saturday I bought myself a Flash (with some of the money my parents gave me for x-mas).
I always was a bit afraid of flashes, because the build-in flash of my camera always destroyed all the colors in the picture and made it look sterile, but with this flash I have so much more posibilities and if I do it right my pictures turn out really cool. (in my oppion, of course)

So i had to test the flash on saturday evening. I wanted to take some shots of the tatoo on my girlfriend's back.

A friend said that these pictures should be zensored. Zensored? Why?
Maybe he is not the only one that thinks so, but I think that it is a beatiful back. Not more not less.

When I made the shots she wasn't really nude, just the upper part of her body was.
The photos show her always from behind (because that's were the tatoo is).

What do you think? Is this too much? Does the photo show to much skin?

Leaving Home - Part 4 - Finally

... it is done.
This weekend wasn't really recreative. So much work.
Moving is really exhausting, but at the moment everything seems to be great.
I moved to my new home this weekend and I love it. It is so great to have a place to call my own.
I want to thank everyone that helped me a lot for everything they did.
And of course I want to thank my girlfriend for making this place a great place to live.

Leaving Home - Part 3 - It's getting serious

Uhhh...
Stress.

I got 2 extra-holydays for moving to the new flat. That's pretty cool, but that means that I have a lot to do to benefit from these 2 days.

My room needs to be empty - except of the furniture - until tomorrow evening.
The pc room will be a lot of work. Don't know where to start.
Since monday I pack things to my car to take them to the flat on my way home from work, than I go home and pack the next things to take them to the flat on the next day.

Puuh... A lot of work.

Leaving Home - Part 2

Yesterday I started packing. Six big boxes so far.
Just a few minutes ago I was told that I will get my keys today at 17:00. That means that from now on I will take a few things to the flat everyday after work.
That means the stress has begun.
I have to pack everyday to take some more to the flat everyday and I have to get everything - except of the furniture - to the flat until friday afternoon.

A lot to do I think!

Leaving home

That's how it looks right now. It is 9:00 AM - sunday morning. It is the last sunday, which I will spent here. Next sunday I will allready wake up in my own little (71qm) flat. MY OWN.
This week will be very stressful I think.

Here is my TODO-List:

• Getting all my stuff into packing cases. (It is a lot of stuff)
• Getting all my paintings and pictures into a safe wrapping.
• Getting my keys.
• Transport everything into the flat.
• Getting the new furniture.
• and then start to build all the furniture together and get all the stuff back in place.

I think this will be a lot of hard work.
But I think, in the end it will all be worth it.

Unfair

So what have we learned?
World is unfair. We learned that it is completly senseless to work hard, try to learn a lot, try to make everything right, because someone showed us that doing nothing, behaving like a stupid spoiled child is absolutly enough to get whatever you want!
I feel like everything I did, does not mean anything!
I could not be proud of myself, if a stupid idiot is allowed to do whatever he want's and I have to work hard to get I want!

This weekend I decided to get my self into the mountains (Turracherhöhe). Snow! A lot!
It was really wired to drive back home on sunday - to drive back into autumn.

Back to school - the last time

I quit school 3 years ago, but because I am an apprentice for 3 years now I had to go to school 9 weeks per year.
On monday I have to go to school again. It will be the last 4.5 weeks going to this school. Normally I hated to go there - It is boring - ,but this time I think it is something like some time to breath again. Work was very hard during the last weeks. I think school will be a great alternation.
Don't get me wrong, I really love my Job, but I had a lot of stress during the last weeks.
I have a little private project going on and I hope to have more time for it in the next weeks than I have now.
School is easy so it won't be very hard for me to get the marks I want.

Maybe I will like school for the first time in my life, allthough it will be the last time to go there.

Something is wrong with this world.

yes something is wrong. Also with my world. I feel a little bit like left behind on a lonely island. All the people that were allways there for me to talk, to go for a beer, to hang around are now gone! I don't blaim them to do something wrong - hell, no! - It's their life! They had to do so and it is like it is. I know there is no better way, but I feel lonely. I am left behind. Maybe it's my own fault.
ICQ helps, but it's not the same. I am very looking forward to the day I will meet them again. I hope they want to meet me too.

People. that's a word. I am searching for some people for trying something wired. I am not god. I can'T do it alone. No way. I have made a little FAQ about it.
